Peter J. Ungaro
President and Chief Executive Officer
Peter Ungaro serves as President and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to his appointment as President in March 2005 and Chief Executive Officer in August 2005, Mr. Ungaro served as Senior Vice President responsible for sales, marketing and services. In that role Mr. Ungaro created and implemented Cray’s worldwide sales and marketing strategy, expanding opportunities for Cray products, collaborating with technical leaders, enhancing the capabilities of Cray’s global sales force and leading service and support for Cray’s worldwide customers. Prior to joining Cray in 2003, Mr. Ungaro served as Vice President of Worldwide Deep Computing Sales for IBM where he led global sales of all IBM server and storage products for high performance computing, life sciences, digital media and business intelligence markets. He coordinated IBM solutions teams that included sales, technical, marketing and product development personnel. Prior to that assignment, he served as IBM’s Vice President of Sales, Worldwide High Performance Computing, as well as in a variety of other sales leadership positions since joining IBM in 1991. Mr. Ungaro received a B.A. from Washington State University.
William C. Blake
Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer
William Blake serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, responsible for the defining the integrated infrastructure that will drive Cray’s next generation of supercomputers and solutions. Mr. Blake joined Cray in April 2012 and served on its Board of Directors from June 2006 to June 2012. Mr. Blake has been involved in the high performance computing industry for three decades. Until January 2011, he served as General Manager of Parallel Computing Platforms in Microsoft Corporation’s technical computing group. Prior to its acquisition by Microsoft, Mr. Blake was President and Chief Executive Officer of Interactive Supercomputing, Inc. which developed and sold an interactive parallel computing platform that extended existing desktop simulation tools for parallel computing on a spectrum of computing architectures. Before assuming this position in January 2007, he served as Senior Vice President, Product Development of Netezza Corporation, which develops, markets and sells data warehouse appliances. Prior, he held key management positions with Compaq Computer Corporation and Digital Equipment Corporation. Mr. Blake is a former member of the board of directors of TotalView Technologies, Inc., Terascala, Inc., Cluster File Systems, Inc., and Unlimited Scale, Inc. and is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Association for Computing Machinery. He received a B.S.E.E. from the Lowell Technological Institute.
Barry C. Bolding
Vice President, Storage & Data Management and Corporate Marketing
Barry Bolding serves as Vice President, Storage & Data Management and Corporate Marketing, responsible for Cray’s storage solutions business and corporate marketing. Dr. Bolding was appointed Vice President in 2009, overseeing product management, as well as corporate and product marketing for Cray’s high performance computing solutions. Prior to 2009, he served as Cray’s Director of Product Marketing where he analyzed future products and developed long-term strategies. Over the course of his career, Dr. Bolding has worked with key customers in government, academia and commercial markets and held positions as a scientist, applications specialist, systems architect and presales product and marketing manager. He first joined Cray Research, Inc. in 1992 and has held subsequent positions with Network Computing Services and IBM. Dr. Bolding holds a B.S. in chemistry from the University of California at Davis and a Ph.D. in chemical physics from Stanford University.
Brian C. Henry
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Brian Henry serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Henry has more than 20 years of experience as a technology company chief financial officer. Prior to joining Cray in 2005, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Onyx Software Corporation, a full suite customer relationship management company, and from 1999 to 2001 he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Lante Corporation, a public Internet consulting company focused on e-markets and collaborative business models. From 1998 to 1999, Mr. Henry was Chief Operating Officer, Information Management Group, of Convergys Corporation which he helped spin off from Cincinnati Bell Inc. At Cincinnati Bell, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from 1993 to 1998. He also held key financial management roles with Mentor Graphics Corporation, serving as Chief Financial Officer from 1986 to 1993. Prior to that, Mr. Henry worked for Deloitte & Touche LLP as a CPA. He received a B.S. from Portland State University and an M.B.A. from Harvard University where he was a Baker Scholar.
Daniel G.B. Kim
Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cluster Solutions
Daniel Kim serves as Senior Vice President and General Manager, Cluster Solutions. Mr. Kim
joined Cray in November 2012, bringing more than 20 years of business and engineering experience. He
formerly held the dual role of President and Chief Executive Officer of Appro International, Inc., a company he
founded in May 1991 as a contract manufacturer. By 1998, Mr. Kim expanded Appro to become one of the
largest vendors of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) high performance computing systems in the United States,
and in 2000 he repositioned Appro to design and sell Appro's own line of branded high performance servers and
clusters. In 2007, Mr. Kim established Appro's direction to deliver only supercomputing solutions. Mr. Kim
holds an M.B.A. from the University of Missouri, Kansas City and a Business Administration degree from
Sogang University in Korea.
Charles A. Morreale
Vice President, Field Operations
Chuck Morreale serves as Vice President, Field Operations, responsible for all customer facing organizations around the world including Sales & Presales, Service, Benchmarking and Special Purpose Systems. Prior, he served as Vice President for Cray’s custom engineering effort from February 2009 to October 2011 and as Vice President of the company’s central and field service and benchmarking organizations from April 2005 through January 2009. Mr. Morreale joined Cray in March 2004, serving as Director of Worldwide Sales Support. From 2001 to 2004, Mr. Morreale was with IBM as an HPC Sales Executive responsible for worldwide high performance computing sales activities in the Life Sciences segment. From 1984 to 2001, he held a variety of positions at Cray Research, Inc. and Silicon Graphics, Inc., starting as a programmer analyst and ending as the Northeast Territory Sales Account Manager. Mr. Morreale received a B.S. from The College of New Jersey.
President of YarcData, a Cray Company
Arvind Parthasarathi serves as President of YarcData, a Cray company, focused on delivering business solutions for the growing Big Data market. Mr. Parthasarathi joined Cray from Informatica Corporation where he most recently served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the company’s Master Data Management business unit. In this role, he led a global team delivering business-focused data management solutions for life sciences, financial services, retail, manufacturing, healthcare and government. Previously, he served as Vice President of Product Management for Informatica's data quality products, and before that was Senior Director responsible for data migration and data integration solutions. Prior to joining Informatica in 2005, Mr. Parthasarathi was Director of Product Management at i2 Technologies where he was responsible for a number of data-centric supply chain applications including RFID and Event Management. He started his career in product management at Oracle Corporation. Mr. Parthasarathi holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology and a master's degree in computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Center for Excellence in Education, a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing high school and college students into careers in science and technology.
Michael C. Piraino
Vice President, Administration, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Michael Piraino serves as Vice President, Administration, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, responsible for the legal, human resources, IT, facilities and government programs teams. Prior to joining Cray in October 2009, Mr. Piraino served with the Seattle office of the law firm Fenwick & West LLP (and a predecessor firm) from October 2007 to September 2009 where his practice focused on corporate finance and securities. From October 2006 to June 2007, Mr. Piraino served with the Exbiblio family of companies in various positions, including Chief Executive Officer. From May 1999 to October 2006, he served with WatchGuard Technologies, Inc. in various roles including Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary; and from October 1995 to May 1999 he served with the law firm Perkins Coie LLP. Mr. Piraino began his career as a propulsion engineer at The Boeing Company. He received a B.S. in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from Purdue University and a J.D., magna cum laude, from the Seattle University School of Law.
Margaret A. (Peg) Williams
Senior Vice President, High Performance Computing Systems
Peg Williams serves as Senior Vice President, High Performance Computing Systems, responsible for product management and product marketing for current systems as well as software and hardware engineering efforts for Cray’s research and development projects. Dr. Williams has more than 20 years of experience in the high performance computing industry. Prior to joining Cray in 2005, she was Vice President of Database Technology for IBM, managed their HPC software and AIX development and held various additional positions in HPC software development at IBM. Her extensive HPC experience also includes leading the user support team at the Maui High Performance Computing Center (MHPCC). Dr. Williams received a B.S. in mathematics and physics from Ursinus College and an M.S. in mathematics and a Ph.D. in applied mathematics from Lehigh University.
