The Government and Defense segment has wide ranging needs in the HPC industry that in some ways are unique and in other ways are similar to market segments such as Manufacturing and Life Sciences. 

The areas of research and HPC modeling include weather forecasting, energy-related models, fluid dynamics, structural and materials science, basic and applied chemistry and database mining. 

Cray has a set of HPC products that tackle these diverse and challenging needs.  The ultimate scaling of the Cray XT family and the Cray XT5 and XT5h systems in particular are designed to help solve both Grand Challenge scientific problems, but also to provide general purpose HPC environments with a Linux-based operating system and powerful tools to enhance performance and usability.
