Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive

The European Union's Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive requires the proper handling, disposal, and financing of end-of-life equipment. As a manufacturer of professional information technology equipment, Cray Inc. (hereinafter Cray) is complying fully with the WEEE Directive. Specific activities include:
  • Labeling products with the crossed-out wheelie bin symbol
  • Registering as a producer in countries where we sell our products
  • Providing information to customers about end-of-life equipment processing
Customer Assistance with WEEE

To assist its customers with their end-of-life computer systems, Cray has contracted with professional WEEE certified recycling companies in the geographies where Cray equipment is sold.

WEEE Collection

Cray has arranged for its customers’ end-of-life products to be collected separately and to be treated properly in accordance with the WEEE Directive. To arrange for the collection and treatment of your end-of-life products, please review the following:

Cray Inc. Take-back Program Instructions

When your system is ready to be recycled, please fill out the form below.

  • Ensure that the equipment and the packing materials do not contain any:
    • Proprietary information about your company

    • Substances that may be harmful to the environment, and are not part of the original system
  • On your pick-up date, please have a site representative available to:
    • Assist the carrier to load the equipment onto the truck.

Cray Inc. Take-back Program Terms and Conditions

  • Any Cray products and associated peripherals purchased from Cray Inc. which were placed on the European market (sold to you) after August 13, 2005.
  • Any Cray products and associated peripherals purchased from Cray Inc. or a competitor-branded product placed on the European market before August 13th, 2005, provided that the function of these historical WEEE systems are replaced by a Cray product.

Neither Cray nor its WEEE waste management contractor will assume any liability if a customer sends the wrong equipment for treatment and disposal or sends equipment or materials that were not part of the original product sale. Equipment for which Cray bears no responsibility under the WEEE Directive will be returned to the customer at the customer's expense.

Transportation drivers reserve the right to refuse any equipment that is improperly packaged or that is deemed dangerous in any way.

Customers can release Cray from WEEE liability. To exercise this option, please use the form below and indicate that you will assume liability in the comments section.
