Cray Roundtable Leads to Key Discussions on HPC Needs in Academia

XSEDE Followup

The steady advancement of computational and storage technologies available in modern supercomputing is changing how colleges and universities train future scientists, engineers and other professionals. It is also leading to a shift in how they enable faculty members and commercial partners to do the kind of ground-breaking research that has come to be expected in academia. At Cray, we want to both anticipate and embrace advances, and we recently hosted a higher-education roundtable discussion at the XSEDE Conference to engage in some serious talks about how supercomputing technologies need to change in light of new needs in academia. … [Read more...]

Higher-ed turns to data-intensive computing

XSEDE-HigherED

Cray has long played a vital role in the higher education community. We value the scientific advances made by researchers in academia and are committed to supporting them with some of the most powerful, and flexible, high-performance computing technologies in the world. To find out more about what we are doing in academia and where we see the industry heading, consider spending some time with us at the upcoming Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) project conference. Cray at XSEDE The XSEDE project is focused on "advancing science, engineering research and education" and Cray is a key player in these areas. With supercomputers at different performance tiers ranging from technical enterprise systems to … [Read more...]

Cray participating in the 21st Annual International Conference on ISMB/ECCB

ISMB_Life Sciences Event

Chemistry and life sciences tend to push the envelopes of research and demand data-intensive operations, simulations and imaging capabilities that can put a major strain on supercomputing systems. Cray is bridging gaps between supercomputing performance and life science’s needs, giving researchers the tools they need to deal with sophisticated project requirements. The 21st Annual International Conference on Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology (ISMB) and 12th Annual European Conference on Computational Biology (ECCB) will be held in Berlin, Germany, from July 21 - 23, 2013.  ISMB/ECCB is one of the most important conferences in Bioinformatics worldwide. Organizers expect more than 1,500 participants to attend this year's event. … [Read more...]

Gearing up for ISC’13 in Leipzig, Germany!

ISC1

One of my favorite HPC conferences of the year is fast approaching. The International Supercomputing Conference is just a few days away, and a number of us Crayons are making the final preparations for this year's annual gathering of the HPC community in Leipzig, Germany. The week-long exhibition has previously been held in Hamburg, but now we move to the beautiful town of Leipzig, with rich culture, music, history, and a state-of-the art conference center. ISC is one of the premier supercomputing events, and is a great opportunity to gather in Leipzig and discuss, explore and experience the rapidly changing world of HPC. ISC'13 will take place June 17-19, with a tutorial day scheduled for the 16th. With more than 2,500 expected … [Read more...]

Recent Workshop Analyzes HPC in the Oil and Gas Industry

Oil and Gas

A few weeks back, Cray and VBRX (now known as XQUBE) teamed up to a host workshop focused on upstream Oil and Gas applications and the growing demands for High Performance Computing (HPC) technologies in the Oil and Gas industry. With events like this, we often spend a disproportionate amount of time promoting the event itself, rather than providing some insights into what was actually presented, discussed and shared. So, I’m happy to give you my first-hand account. I’m proud to say, the workshop was a great success and we are pleased to have played a key role in putting it together. Held in beautiful Rio de Janeiro on May 23, the event was well attended and well received. There were several talks on wide array of topics, such as HPC … [Read more...]
