Peter J. Ungaro

President and Chief Executive Officer

Peter J. Ungaro

Peter Ungaro serves as President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Ungaro joined Cray in 2003 as the senior vice president responsible for sales and marketing. He was appointed president in March 2005 and chief executive officer in August 2005. Prior to joining Cray in 2003, he served as vice president of worldwide deep computing sales for IBM, where he led global sales of all IBM server and storage products for high performance computing, life sciences, digital media and business intelligence markets. Prior to that role, he served in a variety of sales leadership positions at IBM starting in 1991. Mr. Ungaro received a B.A. from Washington State University.

Brian C. Henry

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Brian C. Henry

Brian Henry serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Mr Henry also manages Manufacturing and Supply Chain for Cray. Mr. Henry has more than 25 years of experience as a technology company chief financial officer. Prior to joining Cray in 2005, he served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Onyx Software Corporation, a full-suite customer relationship management company, and from 1999 to 2001 he served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Lante Corporation, a public Internet consulting company focused on e-markets and collaborative business models. From 1998 to 1999, Mr. Henry was chief operating officer, information management group, of Convergys Corporation, which he helped spin off from Cincinnati Bell Inc. At Cincinnati Bell, he served as executive vice president and chief financial officer from 1993 to 1998. He also held key financial management roles with Mentor Graphics Corporation, serving as chief financial officer from 1986 to 1993. Prior to that, Mr. Henry worked for Deloitte & Touche LLP as a CPA. He received a B.S. from Portland State University and an M.B.A. from Harvard University, where he was a Baker Scholar.

John Josephakis

Vice President, Worldwide Sales

John Josephakis

John Josephakis serves as Vice President of Worldwide Sales, responsible for leading Cray’s sales efforts across the globe. Prior to joining Cray in August 2013, Mr. Josephakis held several positions with data storage infrastructure provider DataDirect Networks (DDN). Most recently, he served as senior vice president of global HPC sales, leading more than 50 account managers and working with customers across five continents. Before joining DDN in 1999, he spent over 15 years in management roles in high technology. His prior experience includes operations and sales roles at various technology companies. Mr. Josephakis holds a degree in mechanical engineering and economics from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.B.A. from St. Edwards University.

Frederick A. Kohout

Senior Vice President Products and Chief Marketing Officer

Frederick A. Kohout

Fred Kohout serves as Senior Vice President Products and Chief Marketing Officer, responsible for leading Cray’s worldwide marketing. Before joining Cray in 2016, Mr. Kohout led global partner marketing for EMC, a global leader in IT and business transformation. In that role, he oversaw the development of EMC’s partner strategy and all aspects of partner go-to-market. Prior to EMC, Mr. Kohout led marketing organizations as CMO at technology firms UC4 (Automic) and Tagsys RFID. Before that, he spent 18 years with Sun Microsystems in executive positions in both high performance computing and commercial product marketing, sales and corporate marketing. Mr. Kohout is a graduate of Central Washington University.

Charles A. Morreale

Chuck Morreale serves as Senior Vice President, Field Operations, responsible for all customer-facing organizations around the world including Sales & Presales, Service, Benchmarking and Special Purpose Systems. Before that, he served as vice president for Cray’s custom engineering effort from 2009 to 2011 and as vice president of the company’s central and field service and benchmarking organizations from 2005 to 2009. Mr. Morreale joined Cray in March 2004, serving as director of worldwide sales support. From 2001 to 2004, Mr. Morreale was with IBM as an HPC sales executive responsible for worldwide high performance computing sales activities in the life sciences segment. From 1984 to 2001, he held a variety of positions at Cray Research, Inc., and Silicon Graphics, Inc., starting as a programmer analyst and ending as the northeast territory sales account manager. Mr. Morreale received a B.S. from The College of New Jersey.

Michael C. Piraino

Senior Vice President Administration, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary

Michael C. Piraino

Michael Piraino serves as Senior Vice President Administration, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, responsible for the legal, human resources, IT and facilities teams. From September 2011 to August 2015 he was our Vice President Administration, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, responsible for the legal, human resources, information technology, facilities and government programs teams. From October 2009 to September 2011, he served as our Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary and was responsible for the legal team and from August 2010 he was responsible for human resources as well. Prior to joining Cray in October 2009, Mr. Piraino served with the Seattle office of the law firm Fenwick & West LLP (and a predecessor firm) from 2007 to 2009, where his practice focused on corporate finance and securities. From 2006 to 2007, Mr. Piraino served with the Exbiblio family of companies in various positions, including chief executive officer. From 1999 to 2006, he served with WatchGuard Technologies, Inc., in various roles including vice president, general counsel and secretary; and from 1995 to 1999 he served with the law firm Perkins Coie LLP. Mr. Piraino began his career as a propulsion engineer at The Boeing Company. He received a B.S. in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from Purdue University and a J.D., magna cum laude, from the Seattle University School of Law.

Steven L. Scott

Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer

Steven L. Scott

Steve Scott serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, responsible for guiding the long-term technical direction of Cray’s supercomputing, storage and analytics products. Dr. Scott rejoined Cray in 2014 after serving as principal engineer in the platforms group at Google and before that as the senior vice president and chief technology officer for NVIDIA’s Tesla business unit. Dr. Scott first joined Cray in 1992, after earning his Ph.D. in computer architecture and BSEE in computer engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was the chief architect of several Cray supercomputers and interconnects. Dr. Scott is a noted expert in high performance computer architecture and interconnection networks. He holds 35 U.S. patents in the areas of interconnection networks, cache coherence, synchronization mechanisms and scalable parallel architectures. He received the 2005 ACM Maurice Wilkes Award and the 2005 IEEE Seymour Cray Computer Engineering Award, and is a Fellow of IEEE and ACM. Dr. Scott was named to HPCwire’s “People to Watch in High Performance Computing” in 2012 and 2005.

Stathis Papaefstathiou

Senior Vice President, Research and Development

Stathis Papaefstathiou

Stathis Papaefstathiou is Cray’s Senior Vice President of Research and Development, responsible for leading the software and hardware engineering efforts for all of Cray’s research and development projects. With more than 30 years of high tech experience, Papaefstathiou has held senior-level positions at Aerohive Networks, F5 Networks and Microsoft. In his most recent position at Aerohive, Mr. Papaefstathiou was the senior vice president of engineering and led product development. He received his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom.
