Cray’s mission is to be the premier provider of supercomputing solutions for its customers' most challenging scientific and engineering problems. We put our expertise to work on improving the capabilities of the world’s most advanced supercomputers with initiatives such as these.


The Cray EMEA Research Lab (CERL) performs research and development in strategic areas that strengthen Cray’s leadership in high-performance computing and data analytics, and which deepen Cray’s involvement in the scientific and technical communities of EMEA.

Chapel is an emerging programming language designed to improve the programmability of large-scale parallel computer systems. An open-source effort led by Cray Inc. and supported by a rich community of collaborators, Chapel’s primary goal is to increase the productivity of high-end computer users by making it easier to write, read, modify, port, tune and maintain parallel programs.

Intel® Fabric Builders

Intel® Fabric Builders members are working to enable world-class solutions based on the Intel® Omni-Path Architecture with a goal of helping end users build the best environment to meet their HPC needs.

NERSC Big Data Center (BDC)

The Big Data Center is a collaboration between NERSC, Intel, and five Intel Parallel Computing Centers, established to solve the DOE's leading data-intensive science problems at scale using the Cray XC "Cori" supercomputer. Cray joined the BDC in December 2017.

OpenACC is a nonprofit organization founded with the purpose of advancing directives-based programming methodology for enabling accelerators in hybrid HPC systems. Offloading specific loops and regions of code from the CPU to an attached accelerator can greatly improve performance.

OpenHPC is a Linux Foundation working group project founded with the intent to make base level software components more standardized, to reduce the expenses of customer site management, and lower the costs of redundant efforts across vendors in the high performance computing industry.

OpenMP is an API for multi-platform shared-memory parallel programming in C/C++ and Fortran. OpenMP aims to provide high-level parallel language support for HPC platforms across a wide range of applications and segments.

OpenSFS is a nonprofit technical organization focused on supporting high-end, open-source file system technologies and maintaining their open-source nature. The group is driving the parallel file system roadmap with an initial focus on the Lustre® parallel file system.

OpenStack is a foundation providing a coordinated set of open-source projects that provide the software to build and manage private and public computing environments. Cray is collaborating with OpenStack to leverage common open-source system management components and to enable the benefits of industry standardization in high performance computing.
